From what I can tell from a quick google search, they probably are the Asian variety--out here, at least, they're not the home invaders that they are in other parts of the country, so we don't have the nuisance factor to contend with and can just enjoy feeding them aphids.

p3chandan, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one! It's hard (for me) to learn to let things work out for themselves. And thank you!Stacyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08297253093260251145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4534450478022541384.post-76205084046088662042011-04-23T21:07:35.642-06:002011-04-23T21:07:35.642-06:00b_a_g, it's been kind of startling (in a good ...b_a_g, it's been kind of startling (in a good way) to realize that the garden has grown up enough to be trustworthy now. I enjoyed your own list today and the way you framed it.

Diana, with all the wildlife you have hanging about, I would think your garden could sort itself fairly quickly. :)

Donna, I will send them your way as soon as they have finished chowing down here. They will be fat and sassy by the time they head north.

Jean, recycling may not be quite serious enough to count as a "theme" in Murder Must Advertise... :) It's funny how things stick with you--the idea of "frivoling" in the typists' room is another one I remember from there.

I definitely agree--a wealth of inspiration in the books people have chosen! I'm so glad you asked me to be part of this project.Stacyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08297253093260251145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4534450478022541384.post-63586052750361808982011-04-23T20:35:38.731-06:002011-04-23T20:35:38.731-06:00Mud, thanks! I'm hoping those lady bugs get busy--the sand cherries aren't nearly as tasty as pie cherries, but they're perfectly good in sauces and such, and I'm counting on them this year!

Holley, glad to know the lady bugs are spreading the wealth around. I really do swear by the Cunningham book, for what it's worth.

Donna, it looks like the aphids are already under much better control, so I think the cherries will be fine. Since I have four of them in a small space, if one of them ends up with a plague, they all probably will, so I'm really relieved that the lady bugs have been so hungry. Having a natural balance does make life easier all the way around... With your love for the southwest, I think the Archbishop book would be right up your alley. Not much actually happens in it--mostly a lovely series of vignettes.Stacyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08297253093260251145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4534450478022541384.post-2755680122188119052011-04-23T08:16:04.816-06:002011-04-23T08:16:04.816-06:00I guess Im also guilty of the same thing like you,...I guess Im also guilty of the same thing like you, cut away all the curled leaves! Nature does have a way of balancing things out if we just let it. Your selection of books is varied, and yet, relevant. All of those subjects are related to sustainability in one form or another. What a great list of reads! I have not read that particular book from Willa Cather...another to add to my list. Such a wealth of inspiration! I haven't read any of these books, and they clearly need to go on my list. I have read Murder Must Advertise, but had somehow missed the recycling theme. :-) -JeanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4534450478022541384.post-70275364991975935052011-04-21T20:15:41.476-06:002011-04-21T20:15:41.476-06:00You really have the ladybugs on patrol.
